The Toyota Issue

The 'going ons' in the world always make me smile cynically and the most recent was the Toyota issue. Recently, Toyota had a spate of recalls due to one problem or another. Over the years, I have heard what a great resale value Toyota had and when I am looking to purchase my car buy a Toyota.

I am one of those person who are not so quick to jump on the bandwagon, and something about the Toyota resale value mantra kept bugging me. "Why?" you asked. The word was spreading quicker than California wildfires and then our local market was being flood by Toyotas of all kinds.

Now fast forwarding to the purchase of my car, which was a used car and it was not a Toyota (thank God) and I have had no problems with that car, as a matter of fact I call it 'Old Faithful'. However, a former colleague of mine had a Toyota and over the six odd years I worked with her, her car broken down at least four times and was in the mechanic's shop at least twice a year having some part or the other replaced. Well, my car over the same period had just one problem one would consider major and other two small problems.

I am not saying that Toyota do not have good vehicles, but in my humble opinion almost any brand car get you where you need to go if you take care of it. Oh ... and yes, the Toyota resale value is highly over-rated.
